The G-8 Summit (aka the Group of Eight Gabfest 2010) having brought their vast financial know-how together, have finished their summit this year with a wicked important message for us all: the economy is still on thin ice. While it would be mixing metaphors to bring in the Polar Ice Caps and bears and things, it pretty much fits. Things are fragile right now in the world economy, very fragile, indeed. The G-8 leaders will next take this bit of inspired analysis to the G-20 meeting later this year. Oh and yeah

China Feels Pressured over North Korea

I’m not surprised to hear China feels pressured over North Korea. I mean, c’mon China! You leave your yappy dog out all night, all it does is bark; no one’s happy and its time you did something about it. Please.

Leaders of China, japan and South Korea have been at a weekend summit meant to give a boost to plans of regional cooperation and mutual economic support. The summit is being held on the S.Korean island of Jeju.

Seoul and Tokyo are urging China to put pressure on North Korea to stop it’s posturing and threats, and to support sanctions against the country for its sinking of a South Korean vessel, the Cheonan, earlier this year. So far China has not shown itself willing to do either.

But leaders in both South Korea and Japan do not plan on letting the matter rest anymore than they will let it go undiscussed. It really is time that China weighed its economic relationship with the two other of “The Big Three” of Asian nations against its support for the yappy dog.

I hope Seoul or Tokyo ensure China feels pressured over North Korea; China has to make a choice, and soon. And the right choice.
