Mexican Flag

Mexican Flag part of your Cinco de Mayo decorating ideas? Maybe you want to re-think that? Not that people shouldn’t display flags from their contries of origin or ancestry- so long as certain rules of ettiquite are followed- but in today’s Tea Bag-flavored political climate, some people are getting real touchy about that.

The issue comes in the wake of an alleged hate crime Sunday in Castroville, California. Monterey County sheriff deputies arrested a 32-year-old man accused of spitting on Mexican flags and vandalizing the vehicle they were displayed from.

One might ask those offended by foreign flags why they have a sensitivity to non-U.S. flags? As long as those flying a foreign flag also display the American flag out of respect, and never display them on the same flag-pole, it shouldn’t be a problem. Most Americans trace their ancestry back to somewhere else. We’re a melting pot country, remember?

So, have a good Cinco de Mayo, however you celebrate it, or not. But leave the Mexican flag, and any others alone.
