I don’t think TaskRabbit is going to cause any miracle turn arounds in any lives, but I think it may be able to help keep people from slipping off the work grid entirely, and these days, in this economy, that is something of a miracle.

Much like Craigslist, but with less porn job offers, the website exists to join up job seekers with people who need them to run errands. People list their need and one of TaskRabbit’s Bunnies (can I call them that?) and they reach an agreed upon payment for the successfully completed task. It could be picking up dinner, or dry-cleaning; it could be a cross-country drive delivery, etc.

3/4 of TaskRabbit’s employees are unemployed (or part-timers otherwise) and so the internet service is a real boon to them, supplementing lost hours or reduced wages from other jobs.

An unexpected development is the connection people make, when one person helps another and then the first helps them with some cash. The over-workled person with no free time gets some groceries, say, while the unemployed person can buy some for themselves as well. And helping someone at the same time? That’s something that TaskRabbit gives to both.

Right now, the service is only in Boston and San Fran, but the company hopes to expand as do many willing to work for it. If you want to register a ttask, visit the company’s website. If you want to work for them, same thing. But there is a caveat: TaskRabbit doesn’t forgive mistakes. they have a second-strike and you’re out rule, so this isn’t an easy walk in the park, understand.

Unless the task is dog-walking, I guess.

Special skills are always a plus, so if this looks like the thing to help you’re over-stuffed schedule or under-stuffed wallet, TaskRabbit may be the recession lifeline you’ve been looking for.
