Reactionary blogger Andrew Breitbart has suddenly died at age 43. His site reported the death and said it was of natural causes. This was confirmed by ABC and his lawyer.

Apparently he was walking outside near his home in LA when somebody saw him fall down and called the ambulance. He was brought to the UCLA hospital, but was non-responsive to treatment.

He had become well known, and much either despised or loved, depending on your political perspective. He worked with Drudge and later founded Breitbart.com. It was hard to escape his frequent and vociferous pronouncements on topics, especially liberal vs conservative issues.

He was reviled by many when he precipitated the firing of Shirley Sherrod from the USDA by showing and trumpeting a bogus edit of a video that he claimed showed she discriminated against whites, when a full view of the speech in question actually showed how she overcame her negative feelings and prejudices, and worked for full equality, regardless of race.

Despite this, Ms. Sherrod offered her condolences to his family.

He also was a board member of GOProud until recently, and the Republican Gay Rights group also issued a statement lamenting the demise of a “friend and ally.”

Matt Drudge also issued a lengthy tribute to Breitbart on his website today, as did Arianna Huffington of the Huffington Post, where Breitbart also once worked.

He also was the initiator of “WeinerGate”, posting a pic of Rep Anthony Weiner’s crotch in underwear that wound up leading to his resignation.
